Searching for legitimate
work from home jobs?

So you're searching for legitimate work from home jobs and how far have you come in your quest? Not easy to find something that you can live with hey? Well I have some suggestions for you.

First I will share my story with you and it might sound familiar. I have recently quit my job that I was in for 10 months and I now have such a feeling of freedom and relief that I no longer have to go to that place where I was miserable. I was wishing my life away, always hanging out for Friday.

I had feelings of fear around the loss of a whole income, wondering how we were going to get by. But I decided to have some faith and trust that the universe will always present me with opportunities.

But it doesn’t just happen if you do nothing to invite opportunity in. You can start here...

My job and my extra business activities (website) must be aligned with my Life's Values.

Matching Your Values to Your Work

Once you have written YOUR list of your Life’s Values, you will find it very difficult to then go to a job that doesn’t fit those values. So in your job-hunting, make sure you are applying for jobs that you can live with!

Finding Real Security

But you might think that a job = security; you always get a pay and you can count on that. Well that is just not true. No matter who you work for that job is not secure. You can be put off, or you can get sick or injured and not be able to work for months. There are not many jobs that will pay you if you have a stroke and need months to repair partial paralysis and speech impediment.

If something happens to me and I can't go to my job, then my website keeps working for me. In the economic crisis my website still made money for me because I have a world-wide audience. Retail in the town I live in was very depressed and people went broke and really suffered. But my income does not rely on local trade or even Australian trade. People from all over the world use my website. If one country has a crash like Japan has suffered recently, I still have people in other countries shopping on my website.

Sure the website income is a bit up and down. November and December are up, and January and February are down, but not so much as to make a real difference to my life.

Learn to diversify, have a job and a sideline income. Or have two or three successful websites in different niches. This is the only way to secure income. People who have several income streams rarely go bust! Most people with jobs rely on that job for their very lives and this is not clever.

Getting Paid When You’re Not Working

Working in a job for a salary or wages is one thing. But you only get paid when you’re working. Do you see a problem with that? If not then you have been thoroughly brainwashed into thinking it's reasonable and intelligent to only earn income when you're working. Have you ever considered that it might be a good thing to be paid even when you're not working?
Imagine how your life would be if you got paid even while you are sleeping, eating and holidaying. Did you know there are people who get paid 24/7? Trees grow even when they're not being tended, so if that's natural, why is your bank account not growing while you're not working.

Enjoying Life

It is the weekend and I am sitting at my desk typing this article. I have a lovely view out over the trees and mountains to my left, I have music playing, and I am thinking I will get up soon and grab a coffee and hang out the washing, then come back and finish typing this article. Life is good. While I am doing this, my website is making me money. When I got up this morning I checked my internet accounts and I made some money while I slept last night. It is passive income from the articles I wrote last week, last month, and last year.

Developing Passive Income

Smart people build systems that generate income 24/7, especially passive income. This can include starting a business, building a web site, becoming an investor, or generating royalty income from creative work. The system delivers the ongoing value to people and generates income from it, and once it's in motion, it runs continuously whether you tend to it or not. From that moment on, the bulk of your time can be invested in increasing your income (by refining your system or spawning new ones) instead of merely maintaining your income.

My website is an example of such a system. I write each article or webpage just once (fixed time investment), and people can extract value from them year after year. Sometimes I tweak them and spend just a bit more time on them and I love just pottering around on my website. I also paint and I can then sell prints of my artwork which also makes me further income even though I only had to paint the picture once.

My web server (SBI) delivers the value to my customers and readers, and other systems collect income and deposit it automatically into my bank account. Print houses sell my artwork as prints and forward the income from those sales to me. It is not completely passive but I love writing about my life and my passions, and I love painting and would do it anyway.

Small Set-up Costs--They Can Be, It's Your Choice

But it cost me a lot to set up my website right? Um well, no. I am no website techie person so I have set this up with SBI and I pay about $30 per month (depending on the exchange rate) and have my domain name and all the website creation and maintenance tools at my fingertips. This includes a wonderful forum to pick other website owners’ brains and an amazing support team if I get stuck.
Check out the ideas other people like you and me have come up with.

It can cost many $thousands to set up a brick and mortar business. They can give you high returns too but if you are after freedom like me, then you are better off selling your knowledge from a webpage. Or sell other people's knowledge; become an infopreneur!

Information can be sold by download and once set up you don't have to do anything when a sale happens. You can also sell other people's products like I do with affiliate marketing.

Enjoying Your Expenditures

A wonderful expenditure I am going to claim in the near future is travel to see and document some green, sustainable houses, interview their owners and put them on this website. My holiday will be a tax deduction! It sure beats the usual sorts of expenditures like parking, dry cleaning, weekly toll fees etc. I will LOVE that travel and meeting those people. I only upload the story and photos once to my website and people will then read about those projects and gain inspiration from them for years.

Expanding Your Experience

You might think that getting a good job expands your experience but in fact in most cases it limits your experience of life. Once you are in a job, you can just be repeating the same tasks over and over; the same experience over and over even if some of the details are sometimes different. You learn a lot in the beginning in the training period, then out on the floor, and stagnation happens.

This forces you to miss other experiences that would be much more valuable. Imagine being in training every week; how much would you know and how much progress would you make in your life! And if your limited job skill set ever becomes obsolete, then your experience is worth very little. In fact, ask yourself what the job experience you're gaining right now will be worth in 20-30 years. Will your job even exist then?

In a changing world, what experience and knowledge and skills will even be relevant let alone in demand in 5, 10 or 20 years time. 15 years ago who could have imagined we could do all this on the internet. Only those with the courage to embrace change and step out of the ruts we get comfortable in.

There are many jobs out there that offer you more training or study assistance. Take the opportunity and keep learning and keep evolving.

Saying Goodbye to That Nasty Boss

Does this look familiar? We all need to work at evolving this model into one that benefits both employers and employees.

Oh if I could bottle that feeling of saying goodbye to the negative, controlling leader I had at my workplace, I could sell it and make millions! She wanted me to live by her rules, treated me and my workmates like dirt, and basically made my life a misery of stress and stress-related illness. Never let this happen to you!

A hearty thank you to whoever created this cartoon, I would love to know who you are so I can credit you.
If the above cartoon offends you, well I'm sorry. But it depicts perfectly what happens in many organizations. Do you think this is a good model for any business? Do you think it actually benefits anyone, really? Just make sure that if you set up your own business that you don't create this for you and your employees!

If your workplace is like the cartoon, then you have a couple of choices. Firstly you can just put up with it and that to me is NO choice. Secondly you can speak up for yourself and try to change things. Thirdly you can leave that job and either look for a new job that would give you a better work life or start your own business and become your own boss.

Am I pressing any buttons?

If you are getting mad at me for saying any of this, believe me it's a step in the right direction. It's better than being numb because anger is actually a higher level of consciousness than apathy. Any emotion is better than apathy; it is even better than being confused. If you work through your feelings instead of repressing them, you'll soon find the courage to actually do something about your situation and start living like the powerful human being you were meant to be.

Having More Control Over Your Health

No air-conditioning, able to get up and move around when you want to; eat when you want to; no people with flu and other viruses coughing and sneezing next to me; using your own bathroom you know is clean; knowing you use only green products in your home office; Get sunshine – warmth, fresh air and Vitamin D3 when you want it. That being said, I do have to make sure I get up from the computer and MOVE, get some exercise. Sitting for hours over your computer has its challenges.

In your workplace, if you have a reasonable boss, you can look after your health in many ways. Make some suggestions to improve the conditions and you might be pleasantly surprised. After all your boss won't want employees always away sick.

Remember, be reasonable with your requests. Big demands cause defensiveness and combativeness. You might need to take small steps with this.

Expressing Your Creativity

By working for yourself you can express your creativity in any way you want to and you can implement your ideas. In a job this is sometimes not possible. There are set ways of doing things and you can’t step outside of this. But have you ever made positive, constructive suggestions to your writing? If the suggestions can be put forth in a way that your boss can see how it will help business, then they might be seen in a positive light. Most people just complain to others without ever putting any solutions to the person who can actually do something about your workplace issues.

Being Green

Put forth your ideas for green business, like recycled photocopy paper, turning computers off at night, organic soap in the bathrooms, use of natural cleaning products, indoor plants, and organic tea and coffee. You may have to do this in writing and don't demand, make reasonable suggestions. If you work from home you are free to be as green as you want to be. You can take it all the way if you want and you don’t need approval from anyone. You just might need to discuss this with family members you live with.

Being Available For Your Life and Your Family

When I was working I had to design my life around the job. I could only have my beautiful granddaughter on Saturday nights and I couldn’t have lunch with my kids as our lunch times didn’t coincide. I was becoming a very grumpy wife for my wonderful husband and that is just not fair for him. I actually made sure I was unavailable for art commissions because I just didn’t have the energy or inclination left after working all week.

When you are sitting in your chair at work, doing what someone dictates you should be doing, when and how they want it done, then you are never able to act on your intuitions, and not really available for all of life’s opportunities that really do happen on a daily basis. In effect, you are saying NO to life’s offerings 8 hours a day, 5 days a week.

When I am sitting writing these articles, the phone may ring and bring me an art commission or I might have a light bulb moment and dash out to interview someone for a story I want on my website. In your job, write down your light bulb moments if they will improve business. Maybe you can ask for a suggestion box to put them in.

These days in Australia, many jobs have flexible work hours so you can achieve a better work/life balance. Employers are realizing that this is important for happiness and productivity in the workplace. If your job does not have this, perhaps you can suggest flexible work hours. If you need an extra 30 minutes for lunch with the kids, maybe you can make up the time after work etc.

Helping Others Achieve Their Dreams

This is one of the best aspects of life. Unless you get this in your job, you may not be able to inspire others to unleash themselves, unchain themselves from their own private drudgery. Friends of mine have been inspired to take a leap of faith and start their own website business and we inspire each other on. You don’t have to quit your job. Just make a start on building something you are passionate about and burn the midnight oil for a while to get it up and making you a sideline income. You do have to play it a bit safe because passive income will most likely not happen overnight. You have to build it. JUST MAKE A START NOW! Diversifying, having eggs in a couple of baskets, is the only safe option these days.

Say Good Riddance to Cowardice

Have you noticed that most employed people are always complaining about problems at their companies? But they don’t really want solutions – they just want to vent and make excuses why it's all someone else's fault. It's as if getting a job somehow drains all the free will out of people and turns them into spineless cowards. This happened to me! If you can't tell your boss they are wrong now and again without fear of getting fired, you're no longer free. You've become your master's property.

Talk to your boss about the day to day running of the workplace and help to make changes that will improve business. Most people don't speak up and make suggestions. Give it a go and remember, explain the situation as it is and then offer a win-win solution.

Overcoming Fear

One of the greatest fears you'll confront is that you may not be of any real value to others. Maybe being an employee and getting paid by the hour is the best you can do. Maybe you just aren't worth that much. That line of thinking is all just part of your conditioning. It's absolute nonsense. As you begin to dump such brainwashing, you'll soon recognize that you have the ability to provide enormous value to others and that people will gladly pay you for it. There's only one thing that prevents you from seeing this truth — fear. So if you are in a job, step up and make yourself more valuable. If you want a pay rise you must be worth it!

All you really need is the courage to be yourself. Your real value is rooted in not only what you do, but also who you are. Does your boss know who you really are? Are you one person outside work and another at work? You must learn to marry the two. Then the only thing you need actually do is express your real self to the world. Most people believe that you can't do that. But you'll never know true happiness and fulfillment until you summon the courage to do it anyway.

If you know deep down that getting a job isn't what you want then don't let anyone try to tell you otherwise. Learn to trust your inner wisdom, even if the whole world criticizes you for doing so. Develop your own business and at some point in the future, you'll look back and realize it was one of the best decisions you ever made.

Final Thoughts

While I wouldn't recommend starting an online business for everyone, for many people it's one of the best ways to generate extra income, or income without a job. If you're interested in learning more about this option, then use your passion to Build Your Own Successful Online Business.

As far as legitimate work at home jobs goes, in my opinion, building your own online business really ticks all the boxes provided you set it up right in the beginning, and SBI will take you through the best process to get it right at the outset.
